Spoilers Below!
One Night Strahd (ONS) has quite a few hidden features. These are intended to be a surprise for players, but if you’re here, you’re likely considering buying the book. This adventure is designed to be played multiple times even with the same players.
So. here’s the dark of it:
ONS supports two entirely separate villains.
Both Irena, the fallen paladin, and Strahd, the devil king, are options.
The adventure changes significantly, with different allies, narrative, and boss fights.
ONS contains more encounters than one group can see during a run.
More than twice as many, in fact.
This means there are several hundred potential unique runs.
ONS maintains the randomization systems from Curse of Strahd.
The Tarot system is back, controlling which artifacts are found when.
Repeat players can use this to plan their adventure, rewarding clever play.
Prior knowledge of Curse of Strahd is not required to play ONS.
Support for one or two groups of 3 to 5 players, for up to 10 total players.
A reusable system for reincarnation designed to improve character death.
A consistent and balanced system for getting players back into the game.
A reliable way to introduce new characters rapidly without a tavern.
Narrative content revealed only on character death.
A new approach to chase and investigation encounters.
Entirely new monsters, extensively tested across hundreds of combats.
Reworked Dark Pacts, new magic items, new uses for inspiration, and a shapeshifter duel.
Secret routes, hidden endings, design notes with tips for use in this game and beyond, and a lovable goddess of murder.
